Pioneer Gospel Rapper BOUQUI Bags A PhD in the United States

US-based Nigerian-American rapper, Olubukola Ajoke Folayan, popularly known as Bouqui on May 28th 2022, bagged an academic PhD in Marketing, Advertising and Faith-based Initiative from the prestigious HBI University in Connecticut, United States of America, on a day which happens to coincide with her mother’s 80th birthday celebration.

The rapper rose to national and international acclaim in 2007 with the release of her debut album, B.O.U.Q.U.I, which featured the hugely successful singles, “Molejo”, “Get it Started” and “Vanity”. Since relocating to the United States in 2014, Bouqui has continued to stay relevant, releasing new music and touring campuses across Nigeria and several States in the US. She presently serves as a youth pastor at Victory Christian Fellowship in Delaware, where she was ordained a reverend in March 2019.

With this PhD, the multiple award-winning artiste, follows in the footsteps of her father, HRH Oba Ololade Folayan I, who was an academician, a professor of biochemistry at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The prolific lyricist has 5 albums to her name, including the ground-breaking double album, she released in 2013, which enjoyed critical success. The Marks of a General and Eve Of Independence double CD was the first to be released by a Nigerian female rapper and earned her nominations at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards in New York, the Crystal Awards and the Nigerian Gospel Music Video Awards.
