Don’t Chase Fame, Build Strong Brands- MOGMusic Urges Young Acts

Gospel musician MOGMusic, real name Nana Yaw Boakye-Yiadom, has advised up-and-coming artistes to put more effort into developing a strong and stable brand rather than pursuing popularity and accolades.

In an interview on GBC’s Breakfast Monday, April 10, 2023 show, the musician stated that artistes should focus on honing their skills, advancing their careers, and demonstrating their value rather than pursuing recognition with a weaker brand that could compromise their creativity.

The Be Lifted hitmaker remarked in response to complaints that the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) overlook emerging artistes.

MOGMusic asserted that their perseverance, along with the strength of their brand, would definitely entitle them to future standing on award platforms, free from obstacle.

“What is an up-and-coming artiste doing on an award scheme? You are an up-and-coming artiste, you have to build your brand. You have to build it to a relevant stage where you qualify for these schemes.”

He added:”If you are an up-and-coming artiste, your focus should be how you can work hard to have an opportunity to be on the schemes.”

MOGMusic, pointed out that an artiste’s hurry to earn accolades and other recognition when their career is still in its infancy stage can have a detrimental effect on their future endeavours.

“Sometimes when you are not ready for the platform, the platform can just sink you. They shouldn’t be in a hurry to quickly jump on awards schemes. Trust me these are some of the things that kill talents real quick”, he cautioned.
