Lady Prempeh Speaks about her Backlash

Spread The Love

Even though she was severely criticised for doing a song with rapper Asem about 10 years ago, gospel minstrel Lady Prempeh believes it was a blessing to her music career.Lady has recounted how fellow gospel artiste attacked and ridiculed her when she did the collaboration with Asem in 2008 on the song ‘Odo Yi Wo He’. That notwithstanding, she says the feature increased her fanbase when the song became popular.

“Asem was very popular then, and I believed doing collaboration with him at that time would bring gospel music to a wider youth audience.

The song became very popular, but I had a lot of back lash from people who I thought would support me. Despite that, I carried on promoting the song and gained more fans,” she said.

She further stated that if one has a good heart and mind towards what they do, they would succeed, a reason she has never been afraid to be a game changer.

“If you are a musician you should be able to do any sort of music. Since I took that step many years ago I have noticed that a lot of artistes both gospel and circular like the missing Castro, Sarkodie, Nacee, Herty Borngreat, Nero X and others are also doing similar things,” Lady noted.

“I know I wasn’t the first musicians to have done a song with a secular artiste but I faced a lot of pressure and had to overcome a lot at the time I took that step,” she added.

Lady Prempeh is currently working on new song and hopes to thrill her fans with more surprises.

Lady started singing when she was five years old at the Church of Pentecost in Kwadaso Estate, Kumasi where she grew up.

Her fondness of Daughters of Glorious Jesus resulted in her memorizing and performing their songs in churches and at crusades.
However, upon her entry onto the music scene, she wanted to be seen differently.

“I Love traditional gospel, but I always wanted to do something different, I wanted to stand out, something that will bring my gospel music to a wider audience.”
Lady Prempeh has songs like ‘Onyame Beye,’ ‘Ne Ntaban,’ ‘Nsohwe Mma Kwa’ among others.
