The Society Expects Us to Live Right – KODA to Gospel Artistes

Spread The Love

The last few years have seen some gospel artistes embroiled in controversies casting a slur on their image and bringing them into disrepute in the society.

Last year for instance, Kumasi based married gospel artiste, Brother Sammy and colleague female gospel artiste, Ohemaa Jacky, made headlines when the latter accused him of getting her pregnant.

Even though the Yea Su Fre Wo artiste denied it and said it was a scheme to break his marriage, he clearly lost some credibility.

Also, another popular gospel musician, Ernest Opoku found himself in similar circumstances earlier this year when actress, Nayas 1 named him as the father of her then two-months old pregnancy.

The incident turned out very nasty and Ernest Opoku was heavily criticized for his actions.

These incidents and more that put gospel artistes in a bad light have been a source of worry to Takoradi based artiste, KODA, who is asking his colleagues to live above reproach.

In a chat with Showbiz recently about the use of gospel music as a tool for evangelism, the Nkwa Abodoo singer said gospel artistes must set the right paths their followers who are inspired by their works.

According to him, it is worrying to constantly hear negative stories about gospel artistes as that erodes the confidence people have in them.

“I’m a member of this industry and I hear all sort of stories and bad conducts of some of my colleagues.

“I’m not a perfect person and I don’t intend to judge any one for their actions but as gospel artistes, we must accept and understand our roles in society which must guide us in our dealings every day.

“I doubt that anyone would make an issue out of a case when any secular artiste is seen smoking or engaged in certain unacceptable acts but hell will definitely break loose when a gospel artiste is found in the same situation. Why?

“This is because the society expects us to live right and practice what we preach in our songs. So if we constantly find ourselves in situations that are contrary to our purpose and roles we are to play, we lose respect from the people we are shepherding,” he stated.
