Kill Rumours, it’s not easy to BUILD devotion by Prophet Nigel Gaisie, helps God’s people refresh, refocus and renew their faith and prayer.

TELL IT NOT IN GATH,PUBLISH IT NOT IN THE STREETS OF ASKELON!!!  Kill rumours! Don’t help spread them,it’s not easy to BUILD.# (Prophet Nigel Gaisie)

2 Samuel 1:19-20 (KJV)
The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places:
how are the mighty fallen!
Tell it not in Gath,
publish it not in the streets of Askelon;
lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice,
lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

King Saul had just met his Waterloo in a fierce battle at mount Gilboa .Before his death, he had been involved in many shady things .He spent a great deal of his regime witch hunting David .From the day he perceived David as a threat to his kingdom, his whole might was henceforth marshaled toward extinguishing life out of David at all cost.

His rejection by God and the attendant consequences (the loss of the anointing ) created a deep vacuum in his life which he filled with diabolical acts .He went after the witch at Endom and his trouble multiplied as well as his atrocities .Every step he took was in the wrong direction till he went to war and died as an unsung hero .

The news of his demise filtered into David’s camp by a nameless talebearer who miscalculated that huge kingly compensation probably awaited him for helping David to finally silenced his perennial foe ( king Saul) who had been on his neck for a long spell but when he brought the news to David , his reward was his own death !

David lived in the Old Testament dispensation when the law legalized an ‘eye for an eye ‘ but he had the traits of the New Testament generation .He tapped into the grace of the New Testament severally even while he was still under the old covenant .

Instead for David to roll out drums in the camp and heartily rejoicing at the demise of a man who hunted him into holes and caves as an established arch enemy whom if he had the opportunity could have killed him yet ,He turned to mourning .

He mourned a man who attempted to pin him to the wall at a close range twice with a sharp silver javelin . His reason for mourning was; ‘The Lord’s anointed ‘ Wait a minute, Saul had lost this anointing David reverence!. This wasn’t the first time he was doing this .

He did it once in a cave when he came so close and his victory was within arms length yet his men urged him on to kill Saul even what he did ( cutting a piece of Saul’s skirt ) pricked his conscience .

He returned to camp and told his men ” you don’t touch the Lord’s anointed.Very unlike today saints who have been so brainwashed and indoctrinated with the gospel of revenge .instead for David to thank God for finally ending a long war between him and Saul ,he turned to mourning and took up a dirge .

A dirge is a funeral song or tune, or one expressing mourning in commemoration of the dead.

2 Samuel 1:19-25 (KJV)

19 The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places:
how are the mighty fallen!
20 Tell it not in Gath,
publish it not in the streets of Askelon;
lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice,
lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew,
neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings:
for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away,
the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.
22 From the blood of the slain,
from the fat of the mighty,
the bow of Jonathan turned not back,
and the sword of Saul returned not empty.
23 Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives,
and in their death they were not divided:
they were swifter than eagles,
they were stronger than lions.
24 Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul,
who clothed you in scarlet, with other delights,
who put on ornaments of gold upon your apparel.
25 How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle!
O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places.

I am always moved by this eulogy each time I read it .David began his lamentation account by referring to Saul as the beauty of ISREAL .

Please take note , he didn’t say my enemies are slain …..He didn’t say Saul the wicked is down , but the beauty of ISREAL is slain ….

A king is the beauty of a kingdom .An anointed leader is the beauty of a church .
The leadership of the church are the beauty of the church and anytime anyone is slain ,it goes beyond them ! We lose our beauty .

Anytime we lose a general at a particular height, it is the church that has lost at that height!

The lifting of a man is not for himself , it is for the lifting of others. So the fall of a man is the fall of many because those who should have benefited from that man’s impact or input suffer one loss or the other .

In the middle of his dirge , he was particularly concerned about what the impact of the news of the demise of the leader of ISREAL will have in the camp of the Philistines:

He said ‘ Tell it not in Gath ,publish it not in the streets of Askelon .

Gath was an ancient city of the Philistines warlord .Whenever the philistines goes to war and returned gallantly , Gath was the first place that they announced their triumph over their foes as well as their booty .

That was where POW ( prisoners of war ) were paraded in chains before the populace .The streets of Askelon was the place where the daughters of the philistines awaits to hear news of triumph over their enemies and dance wildly .

David said the beauty of ISREAL is slain ,we are not going to give Gath this news ! we denied the streets of Askelon any wild celebration !

Gath wants news . Gath wants to hear that the mighty are fallen the beauty of ISREAL has been slain upon the high places ,Is that not what the world wants to hear about the church ?

The only thing that pleased the world is the demise of the church .

Acts 12:1-3 (KJV)

1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. 2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. 3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

Where is Gath today and where is the street of Ashkelon?

Gath is the modern day media world . The dark and cruel world of the Internet ;That is where the enemy has launched a sophisticated media onslaught against the church to discredit and utterly neutralize her witness before the world. The reproach this church has today derives its strength from the media!Be a PLUS not MINUS.
