Taya Gaukrodger (formerly known as Smith), a prominent member of the platinum-selling Hillsong UNITED, has made a public announcement on social media regarding her resignation from Hillsong Church. Describing the news as “bittersweet,” Taya shared a heartfelt message reflecting on her decade-long tenure as a staff member at Hillsong Church.
She acknowledged that her resignation coincided with the release of the anniversary edition of UNITED’s Zion album, which includes new renditions of the beloved CCM classic “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail),” a song she has led. “Oceans” was originally released in 2013 and went on to achieve remarkable success, holding the No.1 position on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart for an unprecedented 61 consecutive weeks.
While Taya did not delve into the personal reasons behind her decision to resign, she did provide a link to her full message for those interested. A condensed version of her statement is also provided below. It is worth noting that Taya recently released her debut self-titled album in March 2022.
It is important to remember that Hillsong Church has been in the spotlight recently due to the resignation of co-founder Brian Houston in 2022 following allegations of misconduct involving two women. Houston was subsequently acquitted of a charge related to failing to report his father’s sexual abuse of a child.
