The Independent National Gospel Music Awards (INGOMA) in South Africa have shortlisted Ghanaian-American gospel recording artiste, Evelyn Branford for three categories for 2023 INGOMA. The awards ceremony, which honours the greatest gospel music from South South and Africa and beyond, will take place in Johannesburg on August 26th, 2023.
Evelyn’s latest song and Single, Ameni (Amen) featuring South African gospel recording artist Naomi Wesi, which was released in February 2023 has gained popularity among fans of gospel music on the continent. Ameni, which was composed in english and Tswana (Setswana), a native language in South Africa is a mid-tempo praise jam that highlights Noami’s charisma and Evelyn’s vocal skills. It comes as no surprise that Ameni has been nominated for Best Gospel Single, Best Gospel Collaboration, and Best Gospel Music Video for 2023 INGOMA.
Evelyn, a Minister of the gospel/worship leader who was born to a British father and a Ghanaian-British mother was inspired to serve God at a young age. Currently based in New York, Evelyn serves as a worship leader and has ministered alongside other great gospel musicians, and through her ministrations, people have encountered Christ and testimonies have been shared.
Evelyn says she is humbled and grateful to be nominated, and she hopes to take home at least one of the prizes. She adds that she is eager to attend the ceremony and get to know other gospel performers from various nations. She thinks that gospel music can effectively share the good news about Jesus and His gift of everlasting salvation.
“It is an honour to be recognised by INGOMA, and I am grateful to God for this opportunity. I give God all the glory – it is indeed a dream come true for me. I also want to acknowledge the support and prayers of my followers, family, friends, and church. This is a triumph for our entire team, not just for myself. I am excited to attend the event and celebrate with other gospel musicians who are accomplishing wonderful things for the kingdom of God. My goal is to spread the good news of Jesus Christ via worship and music, and I pray that people will be touched by my songs and drawn to God, she says.
