CELEBRATED Gospel musician, Reverend Thomas Yawson, has lashed out at the new crop of musicians for being too focused on money instead of doing the work of God.

According to him, the new crop of Gospel musicians were in a hurry to release songs just to make money without trying to win souls for God.

“The music we do is meant to convert a lot of people to Christ. It is not about rushing to release songs to quickly make money. Unfortunately that is the situation we find ourselves in with the new crop of Gospel musicians,” Rev. Yawson told Graphic Showbiz recently.

Rev. Yawson said some of the Gospel musicians hardly went to church to worship God but moved from one church to another performing for money.

“I know some of the Gospel musicians who barely go to their churches to worship God but are seen in different churches playing for money,” he said.

He stated that veterans such as Amy Newman, Tagoe Sisters, Yaw Sarpong, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Diana Hopeson among others were moved by the spirit to do music in their day but the same could not be said of Gospel artistes today.

“The message in our gospel songs lately is not encouraging and the way some of them dress is nothing to write home about. I will use the opportunity to tell them to be up and doing,” he said.

Known for songs such as Wadom Do So, Wogye Meso, Mewo Adamfo Bi, Agya Onyame, Never Give Up and I Am So Grateful, Rev. Yawson said he was not retiring from the music scene any time soon.

“After being honoured in USA for contributing immensely to Ghanaian music by GSMTV Gospel Awards few weeks ago, I believe there is still more I can do to help the music industry in Ghana,” he stated.

According to Rev. Yawson, he had plans to come out with an album next year.
